UR develops IoT-AI-based monitoring system for cassava value chain

A University of Rwanda (UR)-led project has developed innovative devices to monitor the cassava value chain aiming to boost productivity and quality, reduce post-harvest losses, cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and improve cassava export potential. The research findings, conducted under the project titled "Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-Based Climate Inequality Monitoring System for the Agricultural Value Chain: A Case Study of the Cassava Value Chain", were presented on August 27, 2025 at UR’s Huye campus. Funded by the National Council for Science and Technology (NCST), the project was implemented in partnership with the Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board (RAB), Kinazi Cassava Processing Plant (KCP), local farmers, and the Swedish University of Agricultural
